What is copyright?

Copyright is a form of protection given to authors of "original works of authorship" by the United States government. It prevents other people from copying, altering, distributing, performing, and displaying someone's original work without his or her permission. Our media center abides by all federal and state guidelines regarding copyright. Please keep these in mind when using library resources.

For more information on copyright, visit the web site for the United States Copyright Office.
